Centripetal Force

You know the feeling when you grab someone’s hands
Spin in circles with them super fast
And all you see is their face
All your surroundings blurring behind you

You both start to get tired
But you keep going
Spinning, laughing, between heavy breaths
Their hands start to get sweaty
You start to slip
Expecting them to keep holding you, to tighten their grip

Their hands relax, they start to let go
Panic enters your faces as you start falling
Their face, your only constant
Added to the blur
As your body grows closer to the ground

Did you expect them to do this?
Is the fall any worse than the slip?

Your world is spinning
And they’re yelling
“its not fair to you, my feet were just stuck
don’t wait for me, get yourself up”

You can keel but you can’t stand
You’d wait years for them to hear you
That you don’t need anything grand
You don’t need to laugh, or spin, or even stand

You would rather fall a million times with them
Help them wipe the dirt off their hands
Than watch them get up alone
Walk away on their own
Like they always do.
But that choice isn’t up to you

What peace in the release of letting go
The fall isn’t worse than the slip
